Jez on BBC London’s Late Show Barking at the Moon

Jez joined the delightful Jo Good and Anna Webb, hosts of BBC London’s Late Show ‘Barking at the Moon’ last night, to chat about his Canine Connection principle and ways to keep our furry friends happy during the long winter nights.

Fans of the KONG Wobbler, Anna, Jo and I shared our favourite ingredients to put in it (while Matilda the dog farted in the studio - probably in approval), while I offered a few different suggestions for keeping your dog stimulated and entertained during the long, dark winter nights. Jo was very keen on my Canine Connection principle so we also discussed the importance of play and enrichment as critical parts of a dog’s life. You can listen to the show again here.

Also on the show was John Howie of Lintbells, manufacturers of a wide range of scientifically-checked dietary supplements for dogs including Yumove and Yumega. John and I had a great discussion about prevention and how it is cheaper, kinder and more effective to prevent things like joint problems, skin and digestion problems and development issues in dogs (and especially puppies). Unfortunately many dog owners aren’t aware of this and opt to simply have their dog treated for bad arthritis, skin irritations, allergies etc when they have already developed, becoming a cosrly exercise of specialist treatments and vet bills.

Miranda Luck from Rescue Review chatted to Jo and Anna about a fantastic new website she’s launched: www.rescuereview.co.uk. It’s essentially an online review site for rescue centres so all potential adopters of dogs can check out previous adopters experiences on everything from cleanliness, customer service, approachability, post-adoption support etc. Miranda has gone to great lengths to ensure she has listed every adoption centre in the UK - over 2,500 of them!! I think this is a wonderful resource and would encourage anyone who has ever adopted a dog to log on and submit your experiences.

Finally, also patiently waiting in the reception area was author Maureen Melvin. Just in time for Christmas, Maureen has released Paws for Pasta and Paws for Shakespeare; two excellent books which brought a smile to my face! Both are written in rhymic couplets and the Paws for Pasta is an inspired, rhyming, recipe book! I enjoyed both of them very much, so I’ve just bought them as Christmas presents! Not only a charming lady, XXX is clearly a very talented author - take a look at her other books, too.
